Original Content Policy

Content created for our jams must be mostly original.

Original content includes assets and code that you created yourself. Most non-original content that you have permission to use is perfectly fine, but your game can not be primarily built from it.

Non-original content is fine to use in your game as long as you have a license to use it, including asset packs. Generative AI is also considered to be non-original content and is subject to very strict restrictions under our Generative AI Policy.

If you use non-original content, you must credit it in the game or its submission, even if not required by the content’s license. Please reach out if you have any questions about this policy to an Admin on Discord or send an email to mail@screamzone.org.

A note for solo developers

If you are filling a skill gap with non-original content, consider searching for another jammer to help instead. While you can absolutely join a game jam solo, the spirit of collaboration is an important part of game jamming.

If you need a writer, artist, programmer, or musician, there are many jammers in our Discord and itch.io community who may be able to join in your project or help you!

A note about fan games and inspiration

Fan games have always been an integral part of our game jams, as have been games that are inspired and similar to popular released games. These games are not banned by this policy. We simply require that the assets and code of the game are mostly original.
